LEAP is an evidence-based and clinician ready therapeutic cognitive stimulation and education program. It is designed to strengthen cognitive processing, communicative function, and cognitive reserve in adults. Appropriate for individuals with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), mild dementia, TBI, and stroke (with and without aphasia). For implementation by SLPs, OTs, and other healthcare professionals to provide cognitive stimulation, social engagement, and cognitive wellness education.

LEAP includes over 200 cognitive and linguistic stimulation activities graded for difficulty. Client-ready forms are provided for self-assessment of functioning, knowledge of wellness strategies, goal setting, and attainment. Clinician-ready forms are included for session planning and documenting client progress. Plus, 10 science-based education guides for providing cognitive wellness education. Target Audience

Adult Population

For SLPs, OTs, and other healthcare professionals needing therapeutic programs that build or maintain cognitive reserve. Client populations include adults with MCI, dementia, vascular disease, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body disease, and frontotemporal degeneration.

Author(s)

Kathryn A. Bayles, PhD, CCC-SLP (Retired), is Professor Emerita of the University of Arizona and an internationally known expert on cognitive-communication disorders associated with Alzheimer’s and other age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes on Aging, Mental Health and Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, the Alzheimer’s, Andrus, and Robert Woods Johnson Foundations, and the Universities of Arizona and Central Arkansas. Widely published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, Dr. Bayles has also authored four books, the most recent being Cognitive-Communication Disorders of MCI and Dementia and two standardized tests: The Arizona Battery for Cognitive-Communication Disorders (ABCD-2) and the Functional Linguistic Communication Inventory (FLCI-2). She is a Fellow and Honors Recipient of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Past President and Honors Recipient of the American Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences.

Kim McCullough, PhD, CCC-SLP, is a Professor and Graduate Program Director at Appalachian State University. Dr. McCullough is a certified speech-language pathologist with clinical expertise in providing services to individuals with neurogenic communication disorders. Dr. McCullough’s clinical activities and research focus on aging, mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and interventions for sustaining brain function. She teaches the following courses: Adult Neurogenic Communication Disorders and Motor Speech Disorders. Dr. McCullough also serves as the BCHS IPE program director. In this role she is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing interprofessional education within the college.

RETURN POLICY:
