Learn to implement Babble Boot Camp (BBC), a parent-conducted evidence-based approach designed to accelerate speech and language development in very young children at risk for disorders.
“I love the interactive nature of this material. Dr. Peter, Dr. Potter, and the rest of their team have done an amazing job with this research and then making it so that SLPs can implement this EBP as soon as possible.”
– A.M., prior course participant
Babble Boot Camp© (BBC) is an evidence-based and proactive intervention strategy designed to improve speech and language outcomes through targeting precursor and early speech and language skills. BBC is intended for infants at predictable risk for speech and/or language difficulties. A clinical trial of BBC in a group of infants at risk for severe speech and language difficulties due to a newborn diagnosis of classic galactosemia has shown substantial and sustained benefits.
BBC’s proactive approach is designed to build resilience against speech and language difficulties that are predictable at birth based on known risk factors. This approach uses a parent-coaching model focusing on increasing communication and participation in family routines via weekly 15-20-minute therapy sessions. The intervention activities cover ages birth through 24 months. Each child progresses through the skill levels at her/his own pace; there are no age-defined milestones that must be reached. BBC can be delivered through telepractice or in person.
This training offers a review of early communication skills, real-life examples of BBC implementation, and hands-on practice. Early intervention SLPs and early childhood specialists will be equipped to implement BBC in any therapy environment including a virtual one. On successful completion of this course, participants earn a certificate of competency and can begin implementing BBC in their professional practice. Parents and other interested individuals are welcome to enroll in this course for their own information.
Offered for 0.5 ASHA CEUs – 5 Contact Hours. Course focus is ages birth through 24 months.
The BBC training includes an introductory module and the following six component modules.
Learners can stop and resume the course at any point. They retain access to course content after completion for ongoing reference and review.
“I am so excited to use this parent coaching model in my practice! I found watching the videos and comparing my own analysis with that of the other professionals quite helpful and also reassuring!”

"Examples of the coaching videos were beneficial. Course was on demand; multiple demo videos; review of developmental stages for various early skills in infants and toddlers." C.B. (Nov. 2024)
"I thought it was beneficial when Jennifer the SLP reviewed things with the parents. I liked all the videos." M.P. (Nov. 2024)
"I specifically liked all the videos and how the therapists commented on them." D.L. (Nov. 2024)
"I liked the five step to discuss with parents consistently. Active participation for parents and consistent feedback from interventionist." S.J. (Nov. 2024)
"The 6 components were helpful. I enjoyed the video examples." L.V. (Nov. 2024)
"All the information was beneficial. I liked that I could take in increments of my choosing." L.N. (Nov. 2024)
"A beneficial topic was that practice needs to occur in the child's natural environment. I found this validating for the work I do. I liked the manner in which it was taught." D.B. (Oct. 2024)
"The eye gaze information - all new to me! Very functional. I love that it ties motor speech work into parent coaching - there's nothing else like this available for young children." S.L. (Oct. 2024)
"I appreciate the very organized and practical application of materials/content. Organization and content, very usable. Knowledge we have as clinicians laid out in a family friendly manner." L.L. (Oct. 2024)
"Coaching questions were helpful and I liked that the course was self-paced." D.B. (Oct. 2024)
"The review, coach, teach, and model were beneficial, as well as the plan and question framework to structure video feedback sessions. I liked the real examples of babies babbling at the different stages, role play of session structure, opportunity to think about my own coaching practice and plans, and the real recordings of a BBC session at each stage." G.T. (Oct. 2024)
"I loved the style of this course. It flowed well together and kept me engaged because of its structure. It was nice that each stage was its own video. I really liked having commentators during the video examples." B.S. (Oct. 2024)
"I really liked the structure of the 5 step model. I also found the topics covered in components 1-3 really interesting as we rarely get to focus on these early skills as children are referred later. I loved all of it. The content and references were great. The video examples, getting the chance to see clinicians working with families, observing clinicians role playing sessions and then getting a chance to then try that out for myself were really helpful. Recording myself doing that was a great way to prepare for using the programme with families. “What amazing things is baby doing?” is such a simple way to open up the session and it made me really focus in such a detailed way and it will help parents see how sophisticated their own baby’s communication is. It’s so helpful to have ongoing access to the resources. I will revisit them a lot." Y.M. (Oct. 2024)
"How to build upon the babies vocalizations and babbling was helpful to discuss. I enjoyed having the videos of the babies and the examples of what was happening and the next steps for therapy." D.A. (Sep. 2024)
"A beneficial topic was the stages of development of vocalizations and babbling. Concise new information and opportunities to see skills in action in the videos." A.H. (Sep. 2024)
"This course was a good review for me on child development and it was very beneficial to see the videos." H.R. (Sep. 2024)
"Recasting and modeling were especially helpful topics. I enjoyed the videos of children, caregivers and interventionist working together." S.W. (Sep. 2024)
"I found the examples and review questions at the end very helpful in picking out key points of each presentation. I enjoyed the real-life examples, the recording of the speakers talking and not just looking at slides, and the self-review at the end of each presentation. I found each section being separated into a different topic was helpful to go back and find a specific topic. I enjoyed the videos as always, as I am a visual learner." J.S. (Sep. 2024)
"I appreciated the kind and respectful approach to parents. By commenting, praising, coaching and modeling, you're setting the parents up for success. Just telling them to model for their child isn't enough. I appreciated the more detailed levels of babbling. Great, real-life illustrations of what the presenter was teaching." L.S. (Sep. 2024)
"Session outline with concrete steps was helpful. I liked the examples of how to talk to parents." R.A. (Sep. 2024)
"The parent-child interactions to support early speech-language skills were beneficial. The review of development stages of babbling was a great refresher. It's amazing to know that such early language is predictive of later vocabulary expression! I can use this in my practice and with my own child!" K.D. (Sep. 2024)
"I work with toddlers so this is a great fast paced CEU to remind me how to teach and model more efficiently. The sections went by quickly, and the content was engaging." A.E. (Aug. 2024)
"The discussion on babbling was beneficial. I liked that you can slow down and go back to review." T.A. (Aug. 2024)
"This course helped me to come up with goals for some of my infants who are very delayed and/or expected to be nonverbal; good review of skills hierarchy/development. I liked all the videos and examples of each topic." L.W. (Aug. 2024)
"This course went over everything I needed to know. The videos are great." A.H. (Aug. 2024)
"Beneficial information on stages of babble and how to quantify. The course was practical." M.C. (Aug. 2024)
"I am so excited to use this parent coaching model in my practice! I found watching the videos and comparing my own analysis with that of the other professionals quite helpful and also reassuring! The modules are easy to digest and the layout lends to natural places to stop and restart." L.M. (Aug. 2024)
"Good speakers. A lot of examples and practice. Great handouts and videos." E.J. (Jul. 2024)
"The 5 steps of the BBC will be very helpful in my daily practice as an Early Intervention Speech Language Pathologist. I liked the videos. I liked observing them to see what the child and parent were doing, that was amazing. I also liked the videos where the Speech Language Pathologists demonstrated the 5 steps." L.M. (Jul. 2024)
"Great course with helpful information! I loved how this approach takes a parent-focused approach. It is clear that there is a heavy emphasis on parent coaching, modeling and planning together with caregivers in BBC. Parents are an essential and important part of the therapeutic process when working with young children, so glad to see that you are making this a priority in your approach!" R.I. (Jul. 2024)
"You created a simple, yet effective sequence with space for us therapists to use our own clinical judgment and experiences during those parent coaching conversations and therapy planning." R.I. (Jul. 2024)
"I love the interactive nature of this material. The questions along the way are very helpful. The content of the training is excellent. Dr. Peter, Dr. Potter, and the rest of their team have done an amazing job with this research and then making it so that SLPs can implement this EBP as soon as possible. This will be an excellent use of the learner's time to receive CEUs. I am grateful to the hard work and many hours that went into this BBC training." A.M. (Jul. 2024)
"The videos of the actual BBC sessions were helpful, as were the periodic knowledge check-ins." E.H. (Jul. 2024)
