This eCourse is a case study of an autistic male teen’s communication treatment program and his treatment outcomes. This case study demonstrates the progressive changes occurring in communication skills with the use of video-feedback using audio-video technology, digital photography, and a speech generating device with the output capacity of digitized recordings. 

The triad of evidence-based treatment in this case study is presented through an overview of historical research, best practice decisions, and sensitivity to, and incorporation of, the patient’s values and interests.  Offered for 0.25 SLP CEUs – 2.5 Contact Hours.

At eCourse conclusion, participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss factors involved in the reported increased prevalence of ASD.
  2. Describe and discuss supported and independent video-modeling and self-video feedback techniques utilized in this study's treatment.
  3. Describe role of customized, patient-created digital icon library in patient's speech and language development.
  4. Discuss the potential communication outcomes using video-modeling and self-video feedback.
 
 
A score of 80% or better must be received on the post test in order 
to receive a certificate of completion.

Submitting To ASHA: Please note that if you selected to receive ASHA credit for this e-Course and you provided your ASHA number during enrollment, NSS will automatically submit your CEU information to ASHA on the 5th day of the following month. When ASHA inputs the information into their database, they will mark the e-Course as completed on the last day of the month it was completed. For example, if you complete your e-Course on November 7th, it will be reflected in ASHA's system as completed on November 30th. The certificate of completion available for you to print immediately on completion of the e-Course, however, will reflect the actual completion date, November 7th in this example.  Due to ASHA processing procedures please allow 2-3 weeks, from the submission date, for the course to show up on your ASHA transcript.

  • Course Completion Timeframe: You have unlimited time to complete this online course. You may log off and log on as you wish in order to complete all sections of this course.

  • Content Access: Access to course materials and content does not expire, even after completing the post test. You may continue to review course material by logging into your NSS account, clicking the E-Courses tab, and then viewing your desired course.

  • Certificate of Completion: On successful completion of the post test (80%), a certificate will be immediately available for download and/or printing. This certificate will include your name, date of completion (based on the Eastern Standard Time Zone), and number of contact hours (CEUs / CEEs).

  • ASHA CE Registry Submission: During the enrollment process, if you select to receive ASHA credit for this course and if you provide your ASHA number, NSS will automatically submit your CEU information to the ASHA CE Registry after successful course completion (80% on post test). This submission happens once per month, during the first week of the month. For example, if you complete your course on November 7th, NSS will submit all November online course CEUs to ASHA during the first week of December.
